Who we are:

At Ciitizen, we have a singular mission: to improve the lives of the 350 million+ people suffering from rare and complex conditions. Leveraging our AI-powered data platform, we empower patients with seamless access and control over their health data that they can share across our multi-sided ecosystem with caregivers, providers and researchers to illuminate better treatment and support options, while bringing therapies to patients faster. We support thousands of patients, work with a rapidly growing network of patient advocacy organizations, and innovate with leading biopharma organizations to accelerate therapies, always ensuring patients remain at the center.

We are a team of patients, caregivers, researchers and builders who have had first-hand experience across the spectrum of rare disease. Led by a seasoned founding team with a history of successful exits in healthcare and consumer startups, and supported by top-tier investors, we are a close-knit, mission-driven group seeking exceptional talents to join us.

The Role:

As a Full-Stack Staff Engineer, you will play a critical role in pushing forward our key patient, partner and internal-facing products. You will be responsible for owning the technical design, architecture, implementation and delivery of our key products with a consumer mindset that builds around the user. You have previously built consumer-facing (B2C) products and are deeply familiar with best practices and key technologies to drive an excellent user experience. You have built products from 0 to 1 and enjoy working in a fast-paced start-up environment collaborating closely with product, design and engineering team. You have “strong opinions, loosely held”, and focus on shipping quickly to ensure learnings from users to drive data-driven decisions.

You are a dynamic player-coach/tech lead capable of initially excelling as a senior individual contributor, with the potential and ambition to transition into a leadership role as our team expands. This role is crucial for our small but rapidly growing team, ensuring we maintain agility and high standards of excellence as we scale.

This is a full-time hybrid role based out of San Francisco, CA.

  • Drive architectural and design decisions using best practices and the appropriate technologies and approaches for patient-facing, partner-facing and internal-facing products

  • Independently spearhead the delivery of large and complex projects by identifying, prioritizing and solving for ambiguous, open-ended problems with flexibility, and execute on all aspects of the software development lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance).
  • Exercise strong technical leadership through modeling best practice coding. Design and deliver high performance, testable, extensible and scalable software systems.
  • Keep up to date on technologies and demonstrate the maturity to know how and when to adopt them.
  • Evaluate technological and design choices, and present well-thought out approaches and technical trade-offs.

Help build and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture, and promoting continuous learning and growth

  • 5+ years of experience as a full stack engineer with a successful history of launching products, and a focus on consumer-facing applications.
  • Deep experience and understanding of a wide range of front technologies, languages, frameworks, component libraries, and tools (we use Typescript, React, and CSS; experience with other front end technologies (e.g. Redux, Angular) is a bonus))
  • Experience working in B2C organizations with a focus on consumer products
  • A strong understanding of front-end performance optimization, scalability, and security
  • Proven track record of high quality coding and architectural design
  • Solid experience with SPA, monorepo, test-driven development, CI/CD, and monitoring tools
  • Familiarity with cross-browser compatibility, unit testing (e.g. Playwright, Jest, Jasmine, etc)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proven experience in interviewing engineering candidates, mentoring team members, and fostering professional growth within a technology team.

Our perfect candidate will also have:

  • Experience extending backend API systems and writing database queries is a plus
  • Experience building and deploying native apps on iOS and Android is a plus
